About Me

Welcome to 2nd Grade!  I am excited to be your teacher.  This is my second year here at L. Hollingworth School.  It is a great place to work and learn.  This is quite an unusual time in our world, but we can succeed by helping each other.  A little about myself:  I'm Mom to three; have a border collie named Champ; I enjoy the outdoors, camping, and kayak fishing; I like to sew, bake cookies, drink coffee, and eat ice cream.  I absolutely LOVE school and learning.  I'm a graduate of BGSU and Florida International University.  I am dual licensed to teach Elementary Education and Specific Learning Disabilities.  I look forward to working with families to help students learn and grow.

Fall Testing Dates - Mark your calendar

Second grade students will have testing at school on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24 beginning at 12:00.  Students will have a temperature and symptoms check upon arrival.  Students must wear a mask to enter the building and should bring their school issued Chromebook if they have one. Caregivers will be notified via Class Dojo once students are finished testing and can be picked up.  Thank you for your cooperation to help your student do their best.

Chick 4 Hatches

Egg numbered 16 is the 4th to hatch today. It is an Olive Egger. If it's a girl she will lay olive colored eggs. In this video you can see how the chick pecks a ring around the egg until she can push her body straight and hatch out. You can see how very tired she is from her work. If you watch carefully you will see bits of shell pop off as she uses her egg tooth from the inside poking through the membrane and the shell. Her pecking action surprises Lilly, the chick resting next to her egg. It is such an amazing feat.

Good morning!  I hope you enjoyed your weekend.  I was able to get outside on Saturday and enjoy some kayak fishing.  I saw many different birds, lots of turtles, flowering trees, chipmunks, ducklings, goslings, and a few fish.  What did you do?  Did flat Ms. Bauer join you?  If you send me your pictures with her and a description, I will add it to our photo album so everyone can see.

Math, Reading, Language - Please continue your individual lessons on MobyMax .  Be sure to check your Game tab for your new game and playing time.  Which game do you like the best?

Science - Enjoy this Mystery Science mini lesson about Rainbows After the lesson, use your home Science Journal to record your answers to the following:

1. How is a rainbow made?

2. What did this lesson make you curious about? What other questions do you have about rainbows?

Bonus Activity: You can create rainbow colors at home! Squirt a dime-size amount of dish soap into a bowl. Add water. Use a straw to blow some bubbles. Can you see colors in the bubbles? Look carefully! If you can’t find colors, move the bowl to a spot with different light. Like a rainbow, the colors that swirl in a soap bubble come from white light. The surface of the bubble splits the light into many colors!
