a 7th grade it's mrs. Clay's here I've been getting a few questions from you guys about the Renaissance and what it meant and all of that crazy stuff so let's talk about it shall we with the Renaissance the Renaissance is in its literal meaning a rebirth and is a rebirth of learning of art literature on a really fun things in life is going to go crazy during the time in history because keep him guys the Middle Ages things were dark and dreary and you had to listen to the various people above you in the food chain and then the black plague and Crusades it just was a mess but what comes out of that is this desire to learn and to have this knowledge that at the time if you were only monks could have until the rent is people taking more of a charge and an opinion in their learning and in their life in their livelihood now I need to stress that this is mainly going to be in Vegas and bigger towns okay if you're way out there remember we've used the example in class of the person in the back corner table the way out in the country way far away from everyone if you're on the country you're not really a big part what's happening in The Rebirth of the city okay it's a lot of those people are still in very dark age thought process but in the cities things are booming which leads us to humanism is the idea that the human is at the center at the center of what you may ask my children okay so humanism is at the middle of thinking humanism is going to be at the middle of study it's going to be at the Mill of art at this time it's ever seen a lot of different pictures from Rome of Art and different things along those lines you had this fascination with the human why do we act the way that we do why do we interact way that we do how do we work as people why do we think the way that we do and it's going to just make people so curious you William Shakespeare who was so curious about it that he actively writes plays trying to explain the human Dynamic you have artists like Leonardo da Vinci who is going to create paintings and sculptures of people in their natural state instead of making them beautiful and huge he's just going to say you just sit here and I want to paint you the way you are the Mona Lisa distance you have Michelangelo who is an artist but also very interested in the human form why do we work the way that we work and how is it that we work in so humanism isn't just this idea that human great I mean they are but why why do humans affect the world and our society's in the way that we do hey it's a really big hairy sea of human being hope that makes sense so far so now let's talk about the family the meddys okay they were not kings and queens they were not kings and queens we're still very active at this time feudalism though it has fallen the serfs and all of that that has gone to the Wayside the monarchy of it all is still very much the medicis were not worth you are very very wealthy somewhere lawyers some were advisors others were criminals but what I really need you to understand when it came to them AC family is that they were powerful and that people are very much influenced by their beliefs their thought processes and their tastes especially an art so the key turn on the humanism in the Medici assignment are they are patrons oh my goodness yes their money and their backing helped give us some of the best artists most well-known artists from the Renaissance to have so they were skewed on the art and on the humanist thought process of humans really having an intricate role in the world how did they do everything by Honest means usually that's not saying the entire family did things by dishonest mean but there were some that were known to do things in the knot best of white but when it comes to their end and who they were historically they were so important okay so I hope that this is helping with the understanding today you should be working on your famous florentines assignment which is literally just introducing you to a lot of different artists and lot of different amazing thinkers from this time if you have any questions I'm always here guys I look forward to your emails even just a simple hi you're never a bother it's a welcome to hear from you so I hope this video helps I look forward to hearing from you by guys
