eighth grade soon-to-be graduates the first one is please be sure that you are watching the video that we have posted with all four of your teachers, has a lot of important information update so please be sure that you are checking that out if you have not already number two so now on Mondays you'll be having a different assignment don't worry I will still be giving you assignments but ye guys did it you got through though, you did a good job and last if you didn't make it to the zoo meeting last week you probably didn't hear misdeal say that we are planning to do something special for you for graduation you know we can't do a ceremony ask that you please take a selfie if you are like and you're starting to get a little crazy and you don't take one right now that's just a selfie from the 8th grade so that way can be a part of your surprise though not too much yet but just send yourself a school of her for your selfie to misdeal all right so let's talk content shall we last week you guys were learning about a guy named Dred Scott and how each has are really boiling in America during this time because the question of slavery is just it is so close to people's hearts in the South they don't think that they live without the slaves that they have and they can't keep up the livelihood said that they have gotten so used to and in the North or like and so it's very it's very contentious how right we have Senators beating each other and Congress and in the streets you have protesters and you have people literally killing over it and ultimately we know that this is going to erupt into you the Civil War under stand why slavery was such a big deal now we look back and feel like no brainer just like a Bala should get rid of it it's crazy how someone but that's us today that now looking back at history at the time it really was a big deal I'm going to take this second to put a quick a suggestion out there for you since you have all this extra time there's a couple movies you can check out we've watched Lincoln this year that is on Netflix the great one but the new Harriet Tubman movies out so if you do have access to stream that anywhere I very much I highly recommend it is a good one and then last one there's a PBS special the abolitionists on that's on Amazon Prime I know that for sure and that is also a very good one but that's just mean it was her the movies I would suggest you watch but I'm over here the history nerd so it's completely fine but when it comes to it this week I just really want you to be able to see and understand what slavery meant to America at that time you are actually going to be looking at a map that is color coded and I want you to see where the biggest population of slaves were where there wasn't a lot of slaves and it kind of learn why all right and see where slavery really was a big deal for people in their livelihood okay and I want you on Tuesday to read it very short document but I have a few questions for you about it. The fugitive slave laws and how scary they have really made everything even if you bought your freedom earned your freedom if you had been released in any way you could still get captured there's a book out called 12 Years a Slave that it it depicts just that now I would not suggest you read but what it tells you is it tells you about how this man who anti-free his whole life because of the color of his skin got captured and was forced into slavery that is what the Fugitive Slave was allowed and so it was a very scary time to be here that on Wednesday I am going to give you an assignment it's about abolitionists and we'll talk about that here in just a second please just know that I'm going to give you two days to work on it's a little bit dangerous night huge but I just want to make sure I don't want to stress you out I want to give you ample time fair enough all right let's talk abolitionism this is somebody who wants to see the abolished of slavery in all of America they do not want to see it around here anymore in any shape or form a lot of people are thinking that and abolitionists needs to be somebody who escaped slavery that is I'm still all of those people have slavery to be a thing we have people like the Grimke sisters who were were that grew up with late for family only place and they saw truly how horrific it was we have Harriet Beecher Stowe who she wasn't a Slave how truly awful this way and so while she wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin in a very fictional way it's a story not about people who are specific but it really does depict how horrific slavery was all right and that's just an eighth of a couple so an abolitionist is just somebody who want slavery to be abolished and they're going to work to get slave abolished so I hope that this video helps I hope that all of you are doing well make sure that you are checking if you have any questions I'm just an email away or you can always come to my office hours I get a little or just talk to myself but hey that's just me I hope you're good I hope you're well and I look forward to talking to you soon bye everyone
