Girls on the Run

Dear GOTR Families,

As our community continues to prepare for and respond to the ongoing spread of the coronavirus, we hope that you have been able to nurture your emotional, physical and spiritual health during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with all of you as you navigate through the various challenges that are arising.

Even though we are unable to gather our girls together right now, we remain steadfast in our commitment to provide support to your girl and family during this time. We have developed several GOTR at Home activities that will help your family get moving, get thinking and get creative together. We will send two sets of activities each week (Mondays & Wednesdays) until we are able to resume our season or in the event of a change in our spring season plans as previously communicated.

This week’s GOTR at Home activities focus on topics that are always important, but particularly important during times like these. The first set of activities is all about celebrating our differences and thinking about all the things we have in common. The second set of activities is designed for girls to consider what it takes to stand up for themselves and how they can practice standing up in big and small ways.

A few reminders to get the most out of your time together:

  • The GOTR at Home activities are designed to be done together, with your girl! But if you need to, they can also be done independently. Try to engage in the conversations along the way to share and connect regardless.
  • Each set of activities includes physical activity to get you and your girl moving! Try to engage in 20-30 minutes of activity during each.
  • If you are only able to do some of the activities, be sure to share the Big idea with your girl to help her understand why you are doing the activity and how it connects to her real life.

We hope these activities help support meaningful interactions between you and your girl and help you nurture your whole health.

With gratitude,

The GOTR NWO Team

Dear GOTR NWO Families,

We hope you have enjoyed doing the GOTR at Home lessons with your girls! GOTR at Home activities focus on topics that are inspired by the Girls on the Run core values and are designed to help your girl and family get moving, get thinking and get creative! We are thrilled to share that the lessons we provided are now also available as a YouTube video series specifically designed for girls!

GOTR at Home: Fun and girl-focused!

  • Each lesson is provided in two formats: 1) an easy-to-follow written format and 2) YouTube videos via the Girls on the Run International YouTube channel
  • Go at your own pace! You can complete the entire lesson at once or break it up for continued fun!
  • Each lesson includes suggested adaptations for girls with physical, sensory, or intellectual disabilities.
  • Your girl can participate independently using the videos or with other adults and family members using the written lessons. Try a combination of both!
  • Each lesson includes up to 20-30 minutes of physical activity to get your girl moving!
  • GOTR at Home was designed to provide exciting and engaging activities for all Girls on the Run and Heart & Sole girls currently registered for the Spring 2020 season. Lessons can be accessed here using password StrongerTogether123!

From the Silly Starters to the fun activities, we hope that these lessons can play a small role in nurturing the mind, spirit and body of you and your girl while school is not in session.

Thank you,

The GOTR NWO Team
