Welcome to the new school year! I am excited about how the year has started! I am Rachel Gerwin, the College and Career Readiness and Information Technology Coordinator at L. Hollingworth School. I am looking forward to all the exciting things that students will be doing in my classroom.
Also, I would like to highlight an exciting program that we do at L. Hollingworth that many of you may not know. It is the College Credit Plus (CCP) program. This program is an excellent opportunity for students who are ready and can pass a rigorous college placement test, who are in 7th or 8th Grade. This program allows those students to take a college course via the internet. Students who earn a C or better in the class earn college credit towards an Associates' degree while they are in 7th or 8th Grade. Also, these credits count as high school credit! This program is entirely free for students! What this means is there are no out of pocket expenses to parents/guardians. But their student must maintain a C or better in the class for this to occur! We currently have four students participating in this program!
We work with Terra State Community College to participate in this program. We utilize Terra State Community College because of its dedication to student service and its outstanding ability to work with middle school students. Ann Warner, the Assistant Director of the program, has been instrumental in the continued success of our students and our school with this program. Please look for more details and updates about this program. An informational meeting is being planned for next year's College Credit Plus program. Stay tuned for updates!
