1R Reader Skills

Happy Tuesday, LHS!

Today's reading focus is on the 1R reading level. Skills at 1R include decoding 3-syllable words by learning 3-letter blends, vowel teams, and word endings. Here are some resources to use at home when practicing these phonics skills!

1R Coaching Record:
This document can be used a checklist as your student starts mastering some of these skills. It not only gives you words to use when practicing phonics, but also provides guided questions when reading 1R books with your child.

1R Skills Card:
This is very similar to the coaching record! It provides questions to ask when reading 1R books, as well as phonics skills to practice.

Word Endings Practice Page:
Use this resource when practicing word endings!

1R Tricky Words:
These are the tricky words that your student may encounter at the 1R level. A student must know 30 of them to enter the 1R level, and know all of them before they move on to the next level (2R).

Phonics Card:
This document gives you specific 1R phonics skills to practice at home.
