2R Reader Skills

Happy Wednesday, LHS!

Today's reading focus is on the 2R reading level. Skills at 2R include decoding irregularly spelled words and multi-syllabic words. Students at the 2R level begin as picture book readers, and by the end, leave as chapter book readers! Here are some resources to use when working with your 2R reader from home.

2R Coaching Record:
This document can be used a checklist as your student starts mastering some of these skills. It not only gives you words to use when practicing phonics, but also provides guided questions when reading 2R books with your child.

2R Skills Card:
This is very similar to the coaching record! It provides questions to ask when reading 2R books, as well as phonics skills to practice.

2R Tricky Words:
These are the tricky words that your student may encounter at the 2R level. Your student should be working to memorize these sight words while in 2R.

Phonics Card:
This document gives you specific 2R phonics skills to practice at home.
