WT Reader Skills

Happy Friday, LHS!

Today's reading focus is for our White level readers. White level readers have a strong foundation in phonics and decoding skills, and now start working heavily in vocabulary and comprehension. White level readers should complete one chapter book every week. Here are some resources to use at home to support your White level readers.

WT Coaching Record:
This document can be used a checklist as your student starts mastering some of these skills. It not only gives you the vocabulary skills that should be practiced at the White level, but also provides guided questions when reading WT books with your child.

WT Skills Card:
This is very similar to the coaching record! It provides questions to ask when reading WT books, as well as vocabulary skills to practice.

WT Tricky Words:
These are the tricky words that your student may encounter at the WT level. Your student should be working to memorize these sight words while in WT.

Vocabulary - Common Prefixes and Suffixes:
Use these lists to study common prefixes and suffixes found at the WT level. Learning these prefixes and suffixes will strengthen vocabulary skills and help students to define new challenging words in their reading.

Vocabulary Word Share:
Students should use this resource when encountering new words while they're reading. Vocab journals help broaden a student's vocabulary and sharpen context clue skills.

Finding Book Series in WT:
This reading log and Hook Book list will help your White level readers explore new series they enjoy reading. Remember, the goal for White level readers is one chapter book per week!

Happy reading, LHS! Have a great weekend :)
