About Me

Welcome to 2nd Grade!  I am excited to be your teacher.  This is my second year here at L. Hollingworth School.  It is a great place to work and learn.  This is quite an unusual time in our world, but we can succeed by helping each other.  A little about myself:  I'm Mom to three; have a border collie named Champ; I enjoy the outdoors, camping, and kayak fishing; I like to sew, bake cookies, drink coffee, and eat ice cream.  I absolutely LOVE school and learning.  I'm a graduate of BGSU and Florida International University.  I am dual licensed to teach Elementary Education and Specific Learning Disabilities.  I look forward to working with families to help students learn and grow.

Thursday April 2, 2020 Learning Plan

Good morning class!  It is so nice to see the sunshine this morning. Try to get outside for some recess and P.E. time today.  I really enjoyed seeing 11 students in Zoom yesterday.  I will offer two Zoom times tomorrow, 10 AM and 1 PM.  You may choose which one to attend.  Hopefully, the two times will allow more students to join.  Bring your rooster drawing and your hen drawing that you will do today.
Reading - I saw many completed Reading and Language lessons yesterday!  Great work!  Continue toady on MobyMax and read at least 30 minutes in the moring and 30 minutes in the afternoon.  ReadingIQ and ARC Bookshelf have books at your reading level.

Math - Continue your lessons on MobyMax in Math and Fact Fluency.  We are earning tons of points in the contest!  I am also awarding Bonus game time to students I see working today.

Science - Enjoy this mini lesson  Mystery Science

Have a wonderful day learning and enjoying Spring with your family!

illustrations of chick embryo development
These illustrations, or pictures, show what our chicks look like as they grow inside of the eggs.  Some of the pictures are larger than the actual chick.  For example, pictures numbered 5-7 are much larger than the shadows we saw when I candled the eggs.  However, you can see how the chick grows and changes.  Pictures 8 and 9 are the stage when I candled.  Today is about day 13.  You can see in that picture the chick has toes and even some feathers.  I have been given a better candling tool so I will check our eggs again either tomorrow or Friday.  I will share those pictures with you then.

Link challenges

Thank you to the families who alerted me to some challenges this morning with Bookflix and Vooks.  I have been in communication with Scholastic and Ms. Gerwin to resolve the issues.  Scholastic recommends using Chrome as your web browser, and clearing your cookies and cache.  I have replaced the links in my original post from this morning and hope that everything works for you now.  Teamwork makes the dreamwork!
