About Me

Welcome to 2nd Grade!  I am excited to be your teacher.  This is my second year here at L. Hollingworth School.  It is a great place to work and learn.  This is quite an unusual time in our world, but we can succeed by helping each other.  A little about myself:  I'm Mom to three; have a border collie named Champ; I enjoy the outdoors, camping, and kayak fishing; I like to sew, bake cookies, drink coffee, and eat ice cream.  I absolutely LOVE school and learning.  I'm a graduate of BGSU and Florida International University.  I am dual licensed to teach Elementary Education and Specific Learning Disabilities.  I look forward to working with families to help students learn and grow.

Have a great day!  Choose hardworking and kind character traits like the Little Red Hen!  I miss you class!!!!!!!

It's Fun Friday!

Good morning class!
Do you miss marking your lunch tally, taking a bathroom break, and choosing your books?  lol  We have made it through our first school week at home.  Today you should go back through the learning plans and complete any unfinished work.  I know we have some classmates who have just now been able to connect online and schooling from home is a big change for all, so today you can catch up.

In math today let's play Prodigy starting at 10:00.  See if you can find each other and play together online.  Remember you can reach me through email, Remind 101 or MobyMax messenger if you need any help or login information.

You do need to read at least 30 minutes this morning and 30 minutes this afternoon.  I am trying to access some different online books for you.  Please try this link Unicorn and Horse and let me know if it works for you.

Enjoy your day!  It feels warmer so I may try to go for a run today.  Have a super weekend with your family!

Incubation Day 1

Here we go class! It's time to put our eggs into the warm incubator and let them begin to grow. We will learn many things about chickens and what is happening inside the eggs over the next 21 days. I wonder how many of our eggs will hatch. I am going to be careful and do the best I can for our eggs. However, sometimes even when you do everything right the eggs don't hatch. That's just the way nature is sometimes. I am hopeful, though, that we will share a very successful hatch together. Enjoy the video and mark your calendar at home!

Opening our box - part 4

THE BIG REVEAL They are beautiful eggs. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity to hatch together. Even though it's not in person, you will still become an expert. Listen and follow along with the captions. In your science journal write how the eggs compare with the diagram of an egg you drew earlier. Write something new you have learned using at least two complete sentences.

Opening our box - part 3

You can see how well the eggs were packed to protect them during shipment. A packing list usually lists all the items in an order. Our eggs are described as "rare". What does that mean? These breeds or types of chickens are not very common. They are rare or hard to find types of chickens. It's so exciting to be hatching unusual birds. I wonder what types they are. We will have to wait and research once they are born. Notice that I will read and follow the directions that came inside the box. Just like you do your best work by following directions, I need to follow directions to help our eggs hatch.

Opening our box - part 1

Our first look into our package of delivered eggs. The packing is some sort of glittery foam granules. They were very messy, but apparently provided good protection for our eggs.

Whoohoo! It's Wednesday!

Learning Plan for March 18, 2020

Reading -The Good Egg  While we wait for our eggs to arrive, enjoy this story.  Think about how you can be a good egg today.  Make a plan and be a good egg and Partiot.
Continue your MobyMax Reading work.

Science - Eggs should arrive today!!!!!  I will post a video for you when they arrive.  Make a journal entry: today's date;  Write at least two complete sentences telling what you know about eggs.  Draw what you think our eggs will look like.

Social Studies - Read about Mari and how she is helping others.  She's a "good egg". The Clean Water Warrior Our class password is 2brocks! Watch the video, read the vocabulary, read and listen to the article, and complete the back page.  On a sheet of paper complete the Opinion Writing activity.  Then play the game.

Art -  Click on "Links" on our class page.  Then select "Art" from the drop down menu.  Choose one of the links and explore.  When you are outside today notice signs of Spring.  Maybe you will want to draw them and share with your family.

Keep learning and being my awesome, good egg 2nd graders!

thermometer that reads 99 degrees Fahrenheit
Here is the temperature inside our incubator.  It is nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  Chicken eggs need to be kept between 98-100 degrees Fahrenheit. It is pretty amazing that just a hen sitting on her clutch of eggs can keep them that warm.  So I will watch the thermometer carefully to make sure the incubator holds the temperature.  Add to your Science Journal: today's date and the temperature inside the incubator. You can write a sentence and draw the thermometer.  Are you getting excited for the eggs to arrive?  I am!

Happy Terrific Tuesday!
