About Me

Welcome to 2nd Grade!  I am excited to be your teacher.  This is my second year here at L. Hollingworth School.  It is a great place to work and learn.  This is quite an unusual time in our world, but we can succeed by helping each other.  A little about myself:  I'm Mom to three; have a border collie named Champ; I enjoy the outdoors, camping, and kayak fishing; I like to sew, bake cookies, drink coffee, and eat ice cream.  I absolutely LOVE school and learning.  I'm a graduate of BGSU and Florida International University.  I am dual licensed to teach Elementary Education and Specific Learning Disabilities.  I look forward to working with families to help students learn and grow.

Day 18 Lockdown

Today the egg turner is removed, an extra water channel is filled to increase the humidity inside the incubator, only the eggs that show a full shadow of a chick are placed on the floor of the incubator. The incubator is then closed and will not be opened until the eggs finish hatching.

New Photo Album

I've decided to post a diary of my Spring Break.  You can find it under the photo albums tab to the left.  I hope you make the most of what's available to you during this time.  You might want to make a diary of your own.  I would love to hear how you're spending your time.

Happy Spring Break Monday!

Good morning Sassy Seconders!  We are technically on break, but you can still access all your learning options.

Any work on MobyMax will count towards our class point total.  I will still answer your messages and award game minutes for your hard work.

I have placed several books about backyard birds on the top shelf of your Reading IQ bookcase.  Scroll through and read about birds you may find around your house.  You can also read books from other shelves in your bookcase.

One story on the top shelf of your bookcase has paper cranes from origami.  Here is a video that shows you how to make your own, you may want a grown up to help you too. How to make a paper crane  There are many different origami bird videos you can try, just remember your paper needs to be a square when you start.

I will update you later today on our eggs and tomorrow I will post a link to attend a LIVE MYSTERY SCIENCE with Doug.  If you attend you will be able to ask him your own questions.

Have a great day of break!

If you missed today's Zoom sessions....

Please see the Photo Album section to the left.  The album called Photos from Zoom #3 labeling chickens has pictures and information to help you label your drawings in your Science Journal of a rooster, a hen, and a chick.

Math - First Fact Fluency and Math on MobyMax then play Prodigy  Look for your friends and battle!  Good luck!

Next week is now our official Spring Break from school.  However, I had planned the incubation of our eggs prior to that change.  I do not want you to miss any of it.  So I will continue to post and possibly hold Zoom meetings for anyone who can attend.  Our MobyMax contest also runs next week.  Any work you do will continue to earn points for our class.  I also will choose books for you and put them on the top shelf of your Reading IQ bookshelf.

Do your best today! Enjoy some sunshine too!

Day 14 Candling part 6

This egg began to grow, but something went wrong. There is not a live chick inside. The ring around the inside of the shell shows that the blood vessels are not attached anymore. This egg will not hatch.

Day 14 Candling part 1

I received a new candling tool and decided to recheck the eggs. If you watch each video carefully you will be able to see movement inside the eggs. We have about a week until our hatch day.
